Alabama and Michigan to play at Cowboys Stadium in 2012
The
University of Alabama and the
University
of Michigan will open the 2012
college
football season by playing at
Cowboys
Stadium.
The contest will take place on September 1 in the fourth annual
Cowboys
Stadium Classic.
It will be just the fourth-ever meeting between the two FBS
schools. The last
matchup saw Michigan take a 35-34 overtime decision in the
1999 Orange Bowl.
The Wolverines also won the 1987 Hall of Fame Bowl matchup,
with the Crimson
Tide winning the 1996 Outback Bowl.
This will also mark the third time Alabama opens a season at a
neutral site
with a national audience, following appearances in the 2008
and 2009 Chick-
fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
BYU edged Oklahoma in the inaugural Cowboys Stadium Classic in
2009, and TCU
downed Oregon State last month. LSU and Oregon will square
off for the 2011
game.
