GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) The Atlantic Coast Conference says coordinator of football officiating Doug Rhoads is retiring.
League officials announced Rhoads' retirement Monday.
Commissioner John Swofford calls Rhoads ''a tremendous ambassador for college football officiating.''
Rhoads started officiating in the ACC in 1977 and worked nearly 275 games over 29 seasons before taking over as the ACC's coordinator of football officials in 2007.
The ACC says it is conducting a national search for his replacement.
