LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) Nathan Sobey didn't expect to see his parents in the stands for his final home game. But with no warning, Peter and Kerrie Sobey flew 27 hours from Australia and knocked on his apartment door to surprise him Thursday night. On Saturday, their son scored a career-high 33 points to lead Wyoming to an 83-75 victory over Colorado State.
''It just got me so much more excited than I already was, playing with these guys in the Double-A for one last time,'' said Sobey, who was 11 of 22 on senior day. ''What better way to end it than with a team that's been through a lot this year and a team that's so close together?''
Josh Adams had 22 points along with career highs of eight rebounds and seven assists while Derek Cooke Jr. added 14 points for Wyoming (18-13, 9-9 Mountain West). The win ended a four-game slide for the Cowboys - a skid that began after Larry Nance Jr. was lost with a torn ACL.
J.J. Avila scored 21 points, while Daniel Bejarano added 15 and Joe De Ciman 13 for Colorado State (16-15, 7-11). All three fouled out in a game that saw 56 personal fouls. Wyoming also lost two players to fouls.
Wyoming led by 18 at one point, but Bejarano's 3 cut the lead to 62-60 with 6:04 to play. After each team made two free throws, Sobey converted a 3-point play and Adams threw down a dunk on a fast break. The Cowboys were back up by seven with 4:21 left and held on for the win.
Wyoming finished with a .500 conference record for the first time since 2004-05.
''When you're my age, you're more interested in how you do what you do,'' Cowboys coach Larry Shyatt said, ''And I've always been proud of the way they fight and claw - when they come up short or when they dance around in the locker room like they did today.''
Colorado State shot only 24 percent in the first half after missing 10 of its first 12 shots and trailed 44-29 at the break.
''The first half, we were forcing,'' Bejarano said. ''We just calmed down, and we got better shots and better plays, but we just fell short at the end.''
Rams coach Larry Eustachy said his team has had stretches with too many missed shots in a row this season. ''They're great shots. It's just who we are right now,'' he said.
Wyoming led 47-29 right after intermission after a 3-point play by Sobey, but Bejarano keyed a 13-0 run by Colorado State with a pair of 3s and Dwight Smith's trey completed the surge, pulling the Rams within 47-42 with 14:43 remaining. After Wyoming went up 69-62, Colorado State drew no closer than five in the last 5:06. The Cowboys scored on six of their final seven possessions.
The Cowboys outshot the Rams 50 percent to 36 percent although CSU won the boards 39-31.
It was the final game in Wyoming's 32-year-old Arena-Auditorium before a $30 million renovation project.
