Winthrop clips Presbyterian, 74-70

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) Keon Johnson scored 18 points, including 8 of 10 at the free throw line, to help lead Winthrop to a 74-70 win over Presbyterian on Saturday.

Trailing 68-67 after two DeSean Murray free throws, Winthrop (6-1, 2-0 Big South) closed out the game on a 7-2 run over the final 2:22 to win the game. Duby Okeke and Xavier Cooks each hit jumpers which gave the Eagles a 71-68 lead.

Okeke then hit 1 of 2 at the line to push the lead to four and after Presbyterian's Markus Terry made both of his free throws, Johnson hit 2 of 2 to put the game away.

Okeke had 12 points and eight rebounds for Winthrop, which has won two straight to open Big South play.

Murray led the Blue Hose (3-5, 0-2) with 24 points, who were held without a field goal over the final 5:38.
