Williams, Thompson to speak at memorial for Dean Smith
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) North Carolina coach Roy Williams, former Georgetown coach John Thompson and several former Tar Heels players will be speakers during Sunday's public memorial service for the late Dean Smith.
The school announced the list of speakers Saturday, two weeks after the retired Hall of Fame coach's death at age 83. The family held a private service for Smith last week.
Williams spent 10 years as an assistant to Smith at UNC, while Thompson's Hoyas lost to Smith's Tar Heels in the 1982 NCAA final.
Other speakers include former UNC players Billy Cunningham, Phil Ford, Brad Daugherty, Eric Montross and Antawn Jamison - who was a member of Smith's last team in 1997.
The memorial will be held in the campus arena bearing Smith's name.
