Toure' Murry scored 16 points and Ramon Clemente added 12 to lead Wichita State past Missouri State 59-46 in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Thursday. Wichita State (16-15), which won for the fifth time in seven games, advances to face second-seeded Creighton (25-6) in a quarterfinal game Friday. Kyle Weems led Missouri State (11-20) with 20 points, 16 in the first half. Will Creekmore grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bears. Wichita State used a 10-2 run early in the second half to take control 40-31. JT Durley, who finished with 10 points and six rebounds, hit two baskets to key the spurt. The Shockers held Missouri State to 29.1 percent shooting and had a season-high nine blocked shots.
