Whisnant, East Carolina put away James Madison 70-58

GREENEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Terry Whisnant scored 24 points, Caleb White chipped in 16 and East Carolina used a late surge to put away James Madison for a 70-58 victory on Saturday night.

The Pirates (5-5) trailed 51-49 when White hit a layup and two 3-pointers. Michael Zangari hit a jumper and Whisnant had a 3-pointer in between White's pair of 3s, helping push the lead to 63-56 with 3:07 remaining. After a layup by Paulius Satkus, East Carolina sank 7 of 10 free throws in the final 1:22 to seal it.

B.J. Tyson finished with 14 points, Zangari grabbed 10 rebounds and Antonio Robinson dished out eight assists for the Pirates.

Ron Curry led the Dukes (6-3) with 13 points and Joey McLean added 10 with five steals and five assists. James Madison missed its last four field goal attempts and turned it over twice in the final two minutes.
