Western Carolina shoots past Jackson State for a 58-47 win

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Haboubacar Mutombo scored 15 points and Western Carolina held Jackson State to just 14 field goals in a 58-47 win in the first-ever meeting between the schools Saturday.

The Catamounts (2-4) held Jackson State (1-5) to just 14 of 50 from the field (28 percent), including 2 of 16 (12.5 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc. What's more, the Tigers got just four points from its bench in 57 minutes of play.

Mutombo was 6 of 9 from the field and Western Carolina was collectively 20 of 42 from the field (47.6 percent), including 7 of 17 from distance. Elijah Pughsley scored 10 points off the Catamounts' bench, which contributed 22 of the team's 58 total points.

Paris Collins had 13 points on 4 of 20 shooting from the field, including 0 of 6 from beyond the arc for Jackson State. Maurice Rivers contributed 11 points.
