Weekend preview: Golden Eagles playing tough
Let's not get carried away with the result of Friday night's Duke-UConn tilt and deem the winner a Final Four club.
Both are solid top 25 clubs, but neither has the depth and talent of their vintage teams.
Also, Duke will be without starting power forward Mason Plumlee, the freshman who Kyle Singler even deemed as the most talented player on the team.
UConn's Jim Calhoun won't have Ater Majok, who will also move immediately into the starting power forward spot, eligible until the middle of next month.
CAN'T MISS: UConn vs. Duke is the NIT Season Tip-Off championship game on Friday night and should be a good barometer for both teams — even though the Huskies won't get Majok back until after the first semester and Duke is without freshman Plumlee for the next few weeks due to a broken wrist. Two keys to watch here are the play of UConn freshman big man Alex Oriakhi and Duke veteran guard Nolan Smith — as well as how the Blue Devils choose to defend the more athletic Huskies.
