WATCH: Iona's A.J. English hit 13 threes in win over Fairfield
Iona senior guard A.J. English is one of the top mid-major players in the country. On Tuesday night, in the conference opener against Fairfield, English had a record-setting performance.
The 6-foot-4 guard connected on 13 3-pointers en route to a career-high 46 points in Iona's 101-77 win over Fairfield. English tied the record for most 3-pointers by a player in a single game since the NCAA moved the line back to 20'9" at the start of the 2008-09 season.
English also finished with eight assists. Through four games, he's averaging 25.8 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds.
The Gales have won back-to-back MAAC regular season titles, although neither have resulted in an NCAA tournament appearance. It's expected to be another tight race this season, as Monmouth has already notched victories over UCLA and Notre Dame. English's performance on Tuesday night in the conference opener was a statement to the rest of the league.
The real question is...where can't A.J. English shoot from? 13 three-point FG for the @MAACSports Preseason POTY pic.twitter.com/xOeNt63Px9
