Walkup has career high, SFA beats Houston Baptist 72-66

HOUSTON (AP) Thomas Walkup had a career-high 35 points to lead Stephen F. Austin to a 72-66 win over Houston Baptist on Saturday night and remain alone atop the Southland Conference standings.

Walkup was 13 of 22 from the floor and made all nine free throw attempts. He also pulled down 12 rebounds for Stephen F. Austin (16-5, 9-0). Clide Geffrard added 12 points.

The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 12-4 lead but Houston Baptist closed to 30-28 at the break. SFA started the second half on a 10-5 run to go up 40-33. Anthony Odunsi hit a 3-point jumper and Reveal Chukwujekwu had a free throw to close to 63-62 with 3:14 left. Walkup answered with a tip-in and the Lumberjacks made seven free throws down the stretch to hold off the Huskies.

Odunsi had 21 to lead Houston Baptist (14-9, 8-2) which has lost two straight after winning 10 in a row.
