KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Walk-on point guard Braxton Bonds has been granted his release by Tennessee and is leaving the Volunteers' program.

Tennessee athletic department spokesman Tom Satkowiak confirmed Tuesday that Bonds had been given his release. The news was first reported by the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

Bonds, a nephew of former baseball star Barry Bonds, originally signed with Liberty in November 2013 and attended summer classes there for one week last year before walking on at Tennessee. The 6-foot-1 guard sat out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA transfer regulations.

Bonds' exit leaves incoming freshman Lamonte Turner as the only pure point guard on Tennessee's roster.
