Flenard Whitfield scored 18 points, including a jumper with 34 seconds left that put the game away for good, in Western Michigan's 77-74 win over South Dakota State on Saturday.
The Broncos (5-4) were down by a point when Whitfield made the go-ahead shot on an assist from Demetrius Ward to make it 75-74.
Ward went on to make a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to extend the lead. He led Western Michigan in scoring with 19 points.
Nate Wolters scored a game-high 28 points for the Jackrabbits (7-3) while Jordan Dykstra added 12 and Clint Sargent 11.

The Broncos shot 48.3 percent from the field and extended their winning streak to four games.
The Jackrabbits finished with 43.9 shooting from the field.
