Richie Edwards scored 25 points and Kevin Van Wijk had 18 points and 10 rebounds Monday night as Valparaiso routed Holy Cross of Indiana 88-38.
The Crusaders (2-1), who never trailed, were on top 43-16 at halftime and scored the first 12 points of the second half. Valparaiso led by as many as 53 points after Jay Harris hit a jump shot with 5:45 remaining to make it 81-28. Harris finished with 10 points for the Crusaders, who shot 61 percent (33 of 54) from the field.
Holy Cross (1-3), an NAIA school, was led by Yama Kader with 13 points, but he shot just 3 of 16 from the field. As a team, the Saints shot 23.3 percent (14 for 60) overall and were 5 of 22 on 3-point attempts.
