Valparaiso holds off Ball State 65-62

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) Alec Peters scored 23 points with 10 rebounds and four steals and Valparaiso held off Ball State 65-62 on Saturday.

Ball State ran out to a 14-2 lead en route to a 39-33 advantage at the break. Valpo erased that quickly in the second half, tying it at 43 on Darien Walker's 3-pointer with 12:50 to go, and used a 19-7 run to go up 52-46 with 8:45 remaining.

The Cardinals tied it at 54 on Franko House's jumper with 4:25 left but Valpo responded by scoring the next nine points and the Crusaders held on down the stretch.

Walker finished with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, for Valparaiso (10-2).

Sean Sellers led Ball State (3-4) with 14 points. Zavier Turner added 13 points with five assists. The Cardinals were 9 of 19 from beyond the arc.
