Brockeith Pane scored 21 points and Tai Wesley added 16 to lead Utah State past San Jose State 80-71 Friday night.
Tyler Newbold added 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Aggies (13-2, 2-0 WAC).
The Spartans (8-5, 0-2) were led by Adrian Oliver with 18 points while Justin Graham scored 15 and Brylle Kamen 13. Graham also had five steals, a category in which he leads the WAC.
USU started the second half by committing four turnovers in four minutes. The Spartans took a 46-44 lead when Keith Shamburger nailed a 3-pointer during that stretch.

A layup and free throw by Pane gave the lead back to USU for good at 53-50 with 12:50 left. USU extended the lead to 75-61, the largest of the game, with 3:33 left on a layup by Wesley.
