UT-Arlington beats Texas St. 72-63 in Sun Belt quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Drew Charles had career-highs with six 3-pointers and 22 points to lead Texas-Arlington to a 72-63 victory over Texas State on Friday night in a Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal.

The third-seeded Mavericks (23-9) will face No. 2 seed Louisiana-Monroe in semifinals on Saturday.

Kaelon Wilson scored 15 points and Erick Neal added 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for Texas-Arlington, which has won five straight.

Cameron Naylor and Emani Gant had 13 points apiece for No. 7 seed Texas State (15-16). Kavin Gilder-Tilbury added 12 points.

The Bobcats had an eight-point lead early in the second half and had their last lead, 55-54, with eight minutes remaining. It was tied 60-all before Jones made two free throws, Charles hit back-to-back 3-pointers and two free throws and the Mavericks led 70-60 with 26 seconds left.
