UNC-Wilmington holds off East Carolina 66-54

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) Freddie Jackson scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead UNC-Wilmington to a 66-54 win over East Carolina on Saturday night.

Craig Ponder contributed 12 points, Addison Spruill added 11 and Cedrick Williams had nine points and 12 boards for the Seahawks (5-3), who shot 46.7 percent from the floor and held East Carolina (5-6) to just 28.1 percent.

UNC-Wilmington quickly took control with a 10-0 run sparked by a 3-pointer from Jordan Tally early in the first half and carried a 33-23 advantage into the break.

East Carolina later cut the margin below double figures with a 5-2 spurt capped by a bucket from B.J. Tyson that made it 59-52 with 1:48 to go, but the Seahawks responded with 7-for-8 shooting from the free throw line down the stretch to cement the win.

Terry Whisnant led East Carolina with 18 points and Paris Roberts-Campbell added 11.
