UNC-Greensboro 65, Appalachian St. 55
Trevis Simpson scored 17 points and UNC Greensboro rallied to beat Appalachian State 65-55 on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference tournament.
The Spartans (13-18) trailed 49-38 with 12:57 remaining in the game before finishing with a 27-6 run. The Spartans began the rally with a 13-2 stretch that tied the game 51-51 on a layup by David Williams with 8:16 to play.
Williams added 12 points and Derrell Armstrong had 11 for UNC Greensboro, which advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time since 2008.
The Mountaineers led 39-32 at halftime and built a 12-point lead before the Spartans began their rally.
Appalachian State made only 6 of 29 field goal attempts in the second half and shot 36.2 percent (21of 58) for the game while the Spartans shot 37.7 percent (23 of 61).
Isaac Butts had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Mountaineers (13-18).
