UNC Basketball: Tar Heels participate in secret scrimmage with Memphis

UNC’s Joel Berry reportedly dominates a secret scrimmage against Memphis
As we continue to count down the days till the start of the 2016-17 college basketball season, the anticipation is growing.
The North Carolina Tar Heels Men’s basketball team has already started practice but now they are doing a little more featuring other college teams.
On Saturday Oct. 29, the Tar Heels participated in a secret scrimmage in Memphis against the Memphis Tigers. There isn’t much on the scrimmage, but the Tar Heels reportedly won by double digits.
ESPN’s Jeff Goodman also provided the key part to the scrimmage:
UNC beat Memphis, per source. Joel Berry was the best player on the floor. https://t.co/i5DeQAviYC

Judging by this tweet from Berry, what Goodman said was probably true:
@Sauce_em_Rod like Westbrook say "I'm hungry!!!"

We are going to have to wait until Roy Williams speaks to the media to learn more about the scrimmage as it was closed to the public.
These scrimmages are becoming more and more popular, with more college teams participating in them again this year. There is no score kept and are conducted in privacy.
Goodman wrote on the scrimmages last season, pinpointing key reasons as to why they take place:
• They allow coaches to script whatever they believe will best benefit their team in every part of the game.
• The scrimmages force teams — and players — to play at a different speed. “Practicing against the same guys every day makes you fall into a rhythm. Playing against a new opponent forces you to adjust to a different speed, strength and intensity.”
• They offer a reality check for coaches even more than players. “Equal to greater talent can bring real facts that some of your players aren’t what you think they are right now. Your freshmen aren’t that ready yet. It can make you rethink your approach.”
The Tar Heels will open the season in New Orleans as they take on Tulane on Nov. 11. Check back with Keeping It Heel for more as we prepare for the upcoming season.
