Jay Couisnard scored 18 points and UMKC won its season opener 71-59 over Truman State on Friday night.
Trinity Hall added 10 points for the Kangaroos, who had nine players score.
Tom Norton led the lower-division Bulldogs with 18 points, Alex Henderson had 15, and Truman State stayed close much of the game by hitting nine 3-pointers.
Couisnard scored eight points at the free-throw line, where UMKC finished 22 of 33.

UMKC put the game away midway through the second half with an 11-0 run that gave the Kangaroos a 57-39 lead with 10:05 to play. The Bulldogs never got closer than nine the rest of the game.
UMKC took a 37-29 lead into intermission after ending the first half on a 9-1 run.
