Jay Couisnard and Reggie Chamberlain each scored 22 points and UMKC defeated Southern Utah 71-68 on Saturday night.
Spencer Johnson had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Kangaroos (14-9, 7-5 Summit). The three players accounted for 18 of UMKC's 23 field goals and all 15 of the team's free throws.
Chamberlain's lay-up put UMKC ahead 67-66 with 1:06 to play. Chamberlain made two free throws down the stretch and Johnson and Couisnard each had one.
Kyle Davis led Southern Utah (7-16, 3-9) with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Massey had 16 points and Ryan Brimley scored 12 for the Thunderbirds.
UMKC was 10 for 23 from 3-point range while Brimley, who took all of Southern Utah's shots from behind the arc, was 2 for 11. Brimley was 4 of 19 overall.
