UMBC edges Albany (NY) 71-69

BALTIMORE (AP) Quentin Jones scored 16 points, including the game-winning tip shot in the final two seconds, to give University of Maryland Baltimore County a 71-69 victory over Albany (NY) on Wednesday night.

UMBC trailed until midway through the first half then went 26-12 with the help of a pair of Jones 3-pointers to lead 37-27 at the break.

Albany started the second period by going 22-9 to lead by three, 49-46, with 11:44 to play. With the game tied 69-69 and two seconds remaining, Jones tipped in a missed Rodney Elliott layup to give UMBC the win.

Elliott added 16 points with four assists and seven rebounds for the Retrievers (9-16, 5-7 America East Conference). David Kadiri came off the bench to score 13 and Will Darley had eight.

Leading the Great Danes (12-13, 6-6) was Gary Johnson with 20 points and seven rebounds.
