Chris Devine scored seven of his game-high 20 points in overtime to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 78-71 victory over Montana State in an ESPNU Bracket Busters basketball game Saturday night. James Nunnally rallied the Gauchos (12-13, 5-7 Big West Conference) by scoring 10 of his 14 points in the final 7:21 of regulation and overtime. His tip-in with 31.7 seconds sent the game into overtime. The Bobcats (12-13, 6-7 Big Sky) took a 40-34 halftime lead behind Danny Piepoli's four 3-pointers, but he was held scoreless after that, finishing with 12 points. Montana State took a 67-62 lead when Marquis Navarre scored a three-point play with 1:01 left in regulation. He led the Bobcats with 13 points and five assists But UCSB's Jordan Weiner made a 3-pointer less than six seconds later, and Nunnally got the ball back for the Gauchos with a rebound with 42.1 to go. His tip-in of James Powell's miss came just 11 seconds later. Powell made 3-of-6 shots from 3-point range and scored 11 points. UCSB outshot Montana State 47.5 percent to 42.3 and won the rebound battle, 37-26, behind Devine's seven. Devine, whose brother Zach is a former Montana State player, has scored at least 19 points in each of his last five games.
