Kyle Austin had a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and UC Riverside overcame a 19-point second-half deficit as the Highlanders beat San Diego 58-55 Friday night. Austin scored 22 of his points in the second half as he carried UC Riverside (5-2) up from the 48-29 deficit in the final 13:14. De'Jon Jackson had 16 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead San Diego (4-4), and Brandon Johnson added 10. Chris Manresa was the Toreros' leading rebounder with eight. USD shot 50 percent from the field in the first half while UCR hit 39.1 percent of its shots. San Diego used the shooting discrepancy, as well as 13 UCR turnovers, to build a 16-point lead at the half. UC Riverside outrebounded the Toreros 41-23.
