Lawrence Kinnard scored 22 points and Alabama-Birmingham beat Southern Methodist 78-75 on Saturday. The Blazers (17-8, 6-3 Conference USA) trailed 75-74 on a layup by SMU's Bamba Falls with 18 seconds left. Paul Delaney III put UAB ahead 76-75 with two free throws 10 seconds later. The Mustangs (7-16, 1-9) had one last chance to take the lead, but Kinnard stole the ball from Robert Nyakundi with 8 seconds to play. Robert Vaden hit two free throws to seal the win for the Blazers. Vaden added 18 points for the Blazers and Delaney chipped in with 17. Paul McCoy led SMU with 29 points, including going 4 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc. Papa Dia chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds and Fall added 10 points for the Mustangs, who have now lost seven of their last eight games.
