Ricky Tarrant scored 22 points, including seven in the last 1:09, to lead Tulane to its first Conference USA victory this season, 66-58 over UTEP on Saturday night.

Tarrant's layup and free throw gave the Green Wave (13-6, 1-4) a 56-51 lead after the Miners (10-10, 3-3) had trimmed a nine-point deficit to two. The freshman guard added two more free throws with 45 seconds left and two more with 22 seconds to play that made it 62-53.

Tulane never trailed after Jordan Callahan's 3-pointer gave them a 41-38 lead with 14:19 remaining, and the Green Wave led by as many as nine points, 51-42 with 6:46 left, after an 8-0 run.

Tre Drye contributed 13 points off the bench for Tulane, whose reserves outscored UTEP's 23-7.

Michael Perez scored 14 points, and Julian Washburn and John Bohannon scored 13 each for the Miners, who had won two in a row.
