Thompson scores 16 as Southern Utah blows out Bristol 79-41

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) Christian Thompson had 16 points and seven rebounds, Trey Kennedy added 14 points, and Southern Utah outscored Bristol 40-8 in the first half before coasting to a 79-41 victory on Saturday.

Southern Utah (3-5) made 15 of its 24 (62.5 percent) first-half field goal attempts and held United States Collegiate Athletic Association-member Bristol to just 3-of-30 shooting.

Thompson was 3-of-5 on 3-pointers and 5-of-8 overall.

Michael Johnson had 11 points and eight rebounds for Bristol, who finished 14 of 65 (21.5 percent) from the field.

The Thunderbirds jumped in front 11-0 before Johnson's layup nearly seven minutes in ended Bristol's scoreless streak. Southern Utah scored the next 16 points to take a 27-2 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach less than 13 minutes in.
