Texas State overwhelms Texas-Tyler, 84-49 in season opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) Kavin Gilder-Tilbury scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Texas State had no trouble with Division III University of Texas-Tyler, 84-49 in the Bobcats season opener Monday night.

Texas State held the Patriots to just 15 points in the first half, taking a 39-15 advantage into intermission.

Junior-college transfer Maljhum McCrea scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high nine boards for the Bobcats, who had 13 different players score in the game while shooting 47.6 percent from the field and knocking down 7-of-23 shots from distance. Texas State held a decisive edge on the boards, out-rebounding UT-Tyler 48-31.

Anthony Gonzales and Reid Walker each scored eight points to lead the Patriots, who used 17 players in the contest and saw 11 figure in the scoring.

Texas State now heads to El Paso, where it faces UTEP Saturday.
