Texas Southern rolls over Southern 88-78

HOUSTON (AP) Deverell Biggs made 9 of 11 field goals and 8 of 9 free throws for a career-high 27 points to lead Texas Southern to an 88-78 victory over Southern on Saturday night.

Texas Southern (19-12, 16-2), which clinched the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular-season title, has won seven straight and will be the No. 1 seed at the conference tournament beginning Tuesday in Houston. Southern is the No. 2 seed, but is ineligible for the NCAA tournament.

Madarious Gibs had 15 points and Chris Thomas added 12. Malcolm Riley pulled down 17 rebounds for the Tigers.

Adrian Rogers led Southern (16-16, 13-5) with 22 points, Tre Lynch had 17 and Trelun Banks chipped in 11.

TSU was up 55-41 at the break and stretched that to a 65-48 lead with 14:10 left. Rogers scored 11 straight points as the Jaguars closed to 71-61 at the midway point but could not close the gap.
