Melvin Johnson III had 21 points and 10 rebounds Saturday night to lead UTSA to an 88-84 victory over Texas State.
Jeromie Hill had 17 points and Devin Gibson had 15 points and eight assists for the Roadrunners (9-8, 3-2 Southland), and reserve Tyler Wood scored 15 points in 17 minutes.
UTSA scored the game's first 13 points, and led 67-50 with 13:38 to play. But the Bobcats got back into it and took their only lead at 84-83 on Cameron Johnson's two free throws with 1:41 left.
Gibson made two free throws with 1:25 left to restore the Roadrunners' lead, added another free throw with 23 seconds left and after a Texas State miss, Sei Paye made two free throws with 5 seconds left.
Eddie Rios led Texas State (7-11, 2-2) with 20 points. Tony Bishop scored 17 points, Cameron Johnson had 16 points and Travis Jones scored 15.
