Texas-Rio Grande Valley beats Our Lady of the Lake 89-81

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Dakota Slaughter sank five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to lead Texas-Rio Grande Valley to an 89-81 win over Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday night.

J.J. Thompson added 19 points, Shaquille Hines had 12 and Dan Kimasa 11 for Rio Grande Valley (4-11), which hit 57 percent of its 58 shots from the field and got 26 assists to snap a six-game skid. Antonio Green had 10 points and 10 boards.

Rio Grande Valley had to hold off a late surge to clinch the win. Our Lady of the Lake, a NAIA program, closed the gap to 86-81 with a 3-pointer from Jordan Phelps, capping a 7-2 burst with 1:04 to play. But the Vaqueros hung on, getting a bucket from Green and a free throw from Kimasa to cement it.

Darion Brown led the Saints with 16 points, while Christian Wood-Dvorak and Joe Jackson had 13 apiece.
