The Texas A&M basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season against the LSU Tigers after winning in Baton Rouge on Saturday night by a final score of 85-73.
In their first meeting of the season the Aggies ran the Tigers out of the gym in College Station. The maroon and white won by 30 points in a more than lopslided game. Although this contest was closer, the Aggies maintained a double digit lead throughout most of the game. Four Aggies scored double digits, and Robert Williams was once again unstoppable.
Ben Simmons and the Tigers took down Texas A&M in Baton Rouge last season. Without Simmons this LSU team has just seemed lost. LSU has just one SEC win (over Missouri) and falls to 9-13 on the season.
The Aggies, with the victory, improve to 12-10 and 4-6 in SEC play. That puts them in a four way tie for ninth place in the conference. Arkansas, the fourth place team, is just two wins better than the Aggies in the standings. With conference play winding down, the Aggies will be looking eyeing their positioning in the SEC tournament and a possible first round bye.
But Aggie fans know better than to look to far ahead. Texas A&M fans will welcome the win after a rough outing against Vanderbilt earlier in the week. Let’s break down how the team did on the floor against LSU.

Tonny Trocha-Morelos
C, Texas A&M
Tonny Trocha-Morelos sot confidently, which is great to see, however that failed to translate into points for the big man. Despite a so far disappointing junior campaign, the 6’10” power forward hasn’t seen his effort fade. I would call it foolish to count him out just yet.
FINAL STAT LINE: 3-9 for 6 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and 6 rebounds.
Tyler Davis
C, Texas A&M
Tyler Davis was once again a monster on the glass tonight and managed to stay out of foul trouble while he was at it. The turnovers have been a major concern with the Plano West product, but the pressure put on him this season has been unreal. It’s easy to get frustrated during the flow of the game, but it’s important to remember our offense would be non existent without the big fella’s scoring from the low-post.
FINAL STAT LINE: 3-7 for 10 points, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 7 rebounds
Robert Williams
F, Texas A&M
It’s tough to imagine Robert Williams returning, but man could he benefit his game from another season in college station. As far as tonight goes, he once again completely dominated the paint on both ends of the floor. It’s easy to see why pro scouts are drooling over the power forward as his athleticism completely disrupts opposing teams offense down low. Not sure how much longer we’ll get to see him in a Maroon jersey, let’s enjoy it while we can Ags.
FINAL STAT LINE: 8-14 for 18 points, 4 blocks, and 6 rebounds
DJ Hogg
F, Texas A&M
DJ Hogg came off the bench tonight and immediately showed off his athleticism with a first half alleyoop from Gilder that sparked an A&M scoring run. He’s still looking to find his stroke from deep, once that happens the inside-out offensive attack should give opponents fits down the last stretch of the season. It was good to see No. 1 have a strong outing. When he’s playing confidently he provides much needed scoring and is a very underrated passer.
FINAL STAT LINE: 3-9 for 11 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, and 5 rebounds
Tavario Miller
F, Texas A&M
Tavario Miller will never be a guy that fills up the stat sheet, however his hustle sets the tone for the Aggies on the glass and the defensive end of the floor. Would love to see him convert on more of his opportunities from in close offensively, but hard to ever knock a guy that gets after it the way he does on the floor.
FINAL STAT LINE: 1-2 for 5 points, 1 block, and 1 rebound
Admon Gilder
G, Texas A&M
The combo-guard controlled the games tempo all night. Admon Gilder hit a big three to push the lead to double digits in the second half, and led the team in scoring and assists. Although Williams and Davis will garner majority of the headlines this season, it is scary to think what the Aggie backcourt would look like without Gilders consistency. Great game again for No. 3.
FINAL STAT LINE: 7-11 for 20 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 6 rebounds
JC Hampton
G, Texas A&M
B+
After stringing together a couple of strong outings the last few games, JC Hampton was awarded the start at point guard for the Ags. Although the first few minutes were shaky, he managed to find his stroke, going on to hit four three pointers. This team goes to another level when he shoots at a decent clip from the field, hopefully this will become a consistent trend for the maroon and white.
FINAL STAT LINE: 4-9 for 15 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds
Chris Collins
G, Texas A&M
It’s hard to be super critical of Chris Collins. He’s a guy who saw a grand total of 5 minutes last season and was thrust into the starting lineup after JJ Caldwell was ruled ineligible. His performance tonight was about what we expect from this point. He’s a turnover prone guard with a lack of aggressiveness when it comes to scoring the basketball. Got to like his effort though.
FINAL STAT LINE: 0-2 for 0 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal
