Tennessee-Martin clips Austin Peay, 67-61

MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) Marshun Newell scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Tennessee-Martin past Austin Peay 67-61 on Saturday.

With Tennessee-Martin clinging to a 59-58 lead with 1:48 to play, Newell drilled a 3-pointer to spark an 8-3 scoring stretch over the next 1:27 that gave the Skyhawks a 67-61 lead with 21 seconds remaining that iced the game. Austin Peay had two final possessions to cut into the deficit, but came up empty both times.

Alex Anderson added 13 points for Tennessee-Martin (16-9, 8-4 Ohio Valley), which clinched its first winning season since 2008-09. The victory was also the 100th all-time for coach Heath Schroyer.

Josh Robinson had 21 points while Chris Horton added 10 and 14 rebounds for Austin Peay (7-19, 2-10). With his performance, Horton became the seventh player in school history with over 1,000 points and 750 boards.
