Temple (25-7)
HOW THEY GOT IN: At-large bid.
GO-TO GUYS: Junior G Ramone Moore led the Owls in scoring (14.8 points per game), shooting 39.8 percent from 3-point range. He also recorded 99 assists in his 30 games in the regular season. PF Lavoy Allen, the only senior in the starting lineup, accounted for 11.8 points and 8.2 rebounds a game. At 6-9, he can be a real force inside at both ends of the court. He had at least two blocked shots in 12 games, including a career-high six in a win over Penn in January. Junior G Juan Fernandez was a third starter in double figures for the year (10.5 points per game). Junior F Scottie Randall was solid off the bench, contributing 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds a game and shooting just under 50 percent for the year.
STRENGTHS: This is a smart, savvy team that isn't going to beat itself. The Owls know how to play defense, holding opponents to 61.8 ppg on 40.8 percent shooting. They outrebounded their foes by more than three a game and forced them into nearly two more turnovers a game. PF Lavoy Allen has been on a tear of late, topping off the regular season with 24 points and 11 rebounds in a win over La Salle in his final home game as a collegian.
WEAKNESSES: F Scootie Randall missed the last five games of the regular season with a foot injury, and with the Owls already down a man with the season-ending knee injury to starting F Michael Eric, depth suddenly becomes an issue if Randall is not 100 percent. G Ramone Moore had some subpar performances in late February but seemed to be getting it back together with 16 points against La Salle in the regular-season finale, though he was only 6-of-16 from the field.
