Stony Brook defeats Massachusetts-Lowell 78-68
LOWELL, Mass. (AP) Jameel Warney scored a career-high 19 points and Dave Coley added 13 points and 11 rebounds to help Stony Brook defeat Massachusetts-Lowell 78-68 on Saturday.
Coley's 3-pointer gave the Seawolves their largest lead of the second half, 54-33 lead with 11:48 to play. Massachusetts-Lowell hit three straight 3-pointers, two by Carlos Taylor, to cut Stony Brook's lead to single digits, 75-68 with 40 seconds left. Anthony Jackson made three of four free throws to seal it for the Seawolves (18-8, 10-2 America East), who are one game back of Vermont for the top spot in the standings.
Akeem Williams scored 20 points and dished out nine assists to lead Massachusetts-Lowell (8-17, 6-7). Taylor finished with 15 points and Mark Cornelius chipped in 13 for the River Hawks.
Stony Brook head coach Steve Pikiell has now tied Joe Castigle for most wins in the program (138).
