St. John's beats Georgetown 81-70 for 20th win

NEW YORK (AP) Phil Greene IV scored a career-high 26, and Sir'Dominic Pointer had a career-high tying 24 points while grabbing eight rebounds Saturday as St. John's beat Georgetown 81-70 to reach the 20-win plateau in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2000.

A 3 by Greene and a dunk by Pointer sparked an 11-0 run which gave St. John's (20-9, 9-7) a 16-6 lead with 14:38 left in the half. The Red Storm led by as many as 15 before taking a 43-32 advantage into the break.

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera hit a 3-pointer to pull Georgetown (18-9, 10-6) within nine with 17:23 to play, but Greene capped a 7-0 spurt with a 3 and St. John's led 52-36 just more than two minutes later and the Hoyas trailed by double digits the rest of the way.

Smith-Rivera led Georgetown with 29 points. Mikael Hopkins added 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.
