St. Francis Brooklyn nears NEC title after 70-54 win

NEW YORK (AP) Jalen Cannon scored 27 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead St. Francis Brooklyn to a 70-54 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night to close in on the Northeast Conference regular-season title.

The Terriers (19-9, 13-2) have a three-game lead over second-place Bryant with three games remaining. They picked up their seventh consecutive victory and their 19th in their last 23 games.

Cannon became the third player at St. Francis Brooklyn to reach 1,600 career points in picking up his 43rd career double-double. The Terriers had 57 rebounds, including a season-high 28 on the offensive boards. Their 57-24 rebounding margin was their largest of the season. Lowell Ulmer added 14 points.

Earl Potts Jr. scored 16 points to lead the Knights (7-19, 2-13), who have lost 13 straight. Darian Anderson added 10 points.

The Terriers led 58-50 with 4 1/2 minutes to go before scoring 10 unanswered points.
