St. Bonaventure regains Franciscan Cup by beating Siena
SAINT BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (AP) Jaylen Adams scored 27 points, Matt Mobley had 20 points and eight rebounds, and St. Bonaventure beat Siena 81-74 on Wednesday night to regain the Franciscan Cup.
The Bonnies hadn't captured the Cup in the annual game since 2013.
Brett Bisping had a putback to pull Siena within 74-73 with 45 seconds left. But St. Bonaventure extended its lead to four points after Adams completed a 3-point play and Mobley sealed it with two free throws with 20 seconds left.
Denzel Gregg and David Andoh each added 13 points for St. Bonaventure (4-2). It was a career-high for Andoh off the bench and Gregg grabbed 10 rebounds for his third straight double-double.
The Bonnies were 23 of 27 from the free-throw line (85 percent) compared to Siena's 18 makes in 32 attempts (56 percent).
Bisping had 23 points and 13 rebounds - eight on the offensive end - for his 20th career double-double for Siena (2-5). Marquis Wright made three 3-pointers and scored 18 points, but the Saints were just 6 of 18 from distance.
