Speech leads CCSU over Sacred Heart 74-69

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) De'Angelo Speech hit 6 of 8 3-point attempts en route to a career-high 23 points Central Connecticut defeated Sacred Heart 74-69 on Saturday.

Kyle Vinales added 15 points and Terrell Allen 13 for the Blue Devils (8-16, 4-7 Northeast). Speech was averaging 2.7 points per game.

The Blue Devils trailed the Pioneers (4-22, 1-10) 52-41 with 11:32 left in the game when they went on a 14-0 run that left them up by five points with 7:24 remaining. Central Connecticut kept the lead from there but didn't get any breathing room until Terrell Allen made four unanswered free throws in the final minute for a 71-64 advantage with 27 seconds left.

Steve Glowiak made 7 of 13 3-point attempts and scored 27 points for Sacred Heart, which has lost nine consecutive games. De'von Barnett added 15 points and Evan Kelley 14. Mostafa Abdel Latif grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds.
