Southern (16-11, 12-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) used a 10-0 run midway through the first half, eight by Calvin Godfrey, to go up 24-13 and the Jaguars led 36-27 at the half.

The lead grew to 14 after Tre Lynch's 3-pointer with 12:33 left, but A&M (10-13, 7-6) whittled it down to six with 4:44 left on Arthur Capers' trey.
