Southern rallies past Alcorn St. 67-54

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) Malcolm Miller scored 18 points and finished with 10 rebounds as Southern University grabbed the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season title with a 67-54 win over Alcorn State on Saturday night.

The Jaguars pulled into the lead with 7 minutes remaining in the first half and led the rest of the way. Southern (18-11, 14-2) finished with 22 more points in the paint than the Braves, and got 14 more points from its bench.

Alcorn State (11-17, 8-8) shot 29.1 percent (16 of 55) from the floor. The Braves closed out the game on a 13-5 run to cut a 21-point deficit to 13 by games end.

LeAntwan Luckett scored 18 points to lead the Braves.

The SWAC announced on Saturday that schools ineligible for the postseason because of poor APR scores - which includes Southern - will be allowed to compete in the conference tournament on March 11-15.
