Richard Pitino is heading back to Louisville.

Richard, 28, will rejoin his father, Rick, after leaving two years ago to work for Florida coach Billy Donovan.

Sources told FOXSports.com that Richard will return as the associate head coach – a title he would not have received in Gainesville with the addition of former head coaches John Pelphrey and Norm Roberts to Donovan’s staff.

Richard spent two seasons on his father’s staff at Louisville – and the Cardinals went to the Elite Eight both times and won a Big East championship and a league tournament title. Reports that Richard will return as coach-in-waiting are inaccurate, according to sources.

Richard recruited current Cardinals Peyton Siva, Rakeem Buckles and Jared Swopshire.

With the pending retirement of Ralph Willard and the departure of Steve Masiello, who took the head job at Manhattan this week, Rick wanted to bring someone on with familiarity with his system.
