SE Louisiana needs comeback, tops Northwestern State, 73-66 (Feb 16, 2017)

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) Davon Hayes scored 21 points and Southeastern Louisiana overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to beat Northwestern State, 73-66, in a Southland Conference battle Thursday night.

The Lions snapped a three-game losing streak, but despite losing five of its last seven games Southeastern Louisiana (14-13, 7-7) finds itself tied with Central Arkansas for seventh place with four games remaining in the regular season. Eight teams advance to the Southland Conference Tournament.

Iziahiah Sweeney's layup with 18:47 left gave the Demons a double-digit advantage, 37-27. James Currington's layup with 12:12 remaining gave the Lions the lead and two minutes later Eddy Polanco drilled a 3-pointer to make it a 10-point SE Louisiana lead.

Hayes was 8 for 16 from the floor, including 1 of 4 from deep. Polanco added 13 points and Southeastern Louisiana collectively shot 28 of 58 from the field (48.3 percent).

Sweeney finished with 13 points to lead Northwestern State (9-15, 3-10).
