Gary Dixon scored 18 points, Roosevelt Johnson added 10 points and 10 rebounds as Southeastern Louisiana beat Jacksonville State 74-66 on Monday night.
Dixon scored 11 of his points in the first half as the Lions (2-1) entered halftime with a 32-29 lead. Southeastern Louisiana shot 12 for 25 from the floor (48 percent) in the second half to extend its lead.
Jacksonville State pulled to within six points, 62-56, with 2:48 left in the game, but a quick 8-1 run by the Lions pushed their lead to 70-57 with just over a minute to play. The 13-point advantage was the largest of the game for Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lions shot 25 for 31 from the free-throw line (80.6 percent) and posted a 38-29 rebounding advantage.
Nick Murphy scored 18 points and Stephen Hall added 16 for the Gamecocks (1-3) in the loss.
