Jodd Maxey scored 16 points and South Carolina-Upstate rallied in the second half and held on for a 58-54 win over East Tennessee State on Friday night.
The Spartans trailed 47-45 before launching a 13-0 run to grab a 58-47 lead with 19 seconds remaining. The rally was capped by two free throws by Ricardo Glenn. East Tennessee State answered with seven straight points, including a dunk at the buzzer by Adam Sollazzo.
Torrey Craig had 11 points and 10 rebounds while Glenn pulled down 17 rebounds for the Spartans (13-9, 7-3) Atlantic Sun Conference), who have won three games in a row. Ty Greene and Mario Blessing each added 11 points for the Spartans.
Sheldon Cooley scored 14 points, while Isiah Brown and Sollazzo had 11 apiece for the Bucs (10-10, 5-5), who dropped their third in a row. Brown surpassed 1,000 points in his career.
