Samford 87, Elon 78
Tyler Hood scored 20 points to lead five Samford players in double figures in an 87-78 win over Elon on Saturday, giving the Bulldogs a season sweep.
Samford (10-15, 7-7 Southern Conference), coming off a 71-69 loss to UNC Greensboro, used a 17-3 first-half run to turn a one-point game into a 15-point lead.
The Bulldogs, who beat the Phoenix 86-80 on Jan. 19 when Hood scored 25, took a 40-30 advantage into halftime.
Samford led 69-59 when Elon scored seven straight points. After Jeffrey Merritt's three-point play restored a six-point cushion, Brett Ervin's 3-pointer made it 72-69 with 4:47 left.
Drew Windler and Raijon Kelly responded with 3-pointers for the Bulldogs, who sealed it with 9 of 10 free throws.
Windler and Kelly finished with 16 points each and Merritt and Will Cook had 11 apiece.
Jack Isenbarger's 21 points led Elon (13-12, 8-6), which has lost two straight.
