Samford 68, Texas-Arlington 60
Jeffrey Merritt and Andy King scored 13 points apiece as Samford beat Texas-Arlington 68-60 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (6-4) trailed 53-51 after a 3 from Bradley Gay with 5:12 remaining, but three consecutive 3s from King gave Samford a 60-53 lead with 2:12 left to play.
King scored 11 of his 13 points in the last four minutes, while Merritt scored five of his 13 in the final 1:06.
Samford led by as many as 15, 19-4, at the 10:27 mark of the opening half, but the Mavericks (5-3) ended the half on a 26-11 run to tie the score at 30.
LaMarcus Reed scored 14, Darius Richardson 11 and Gay 10 for Texas-Arlington, which led 45-37 with 11:32 left in the second half.
The Mavericks shot 5 for 16 from the floor (31.3 percent) over the final 10 minutes.
Josh Bedwell added 11 points and John Peterson 10 as the Bulldogs outscored Texas-Arlington 34-19 in bench points.
