Jeremy McKay scored 16 points and Sam Houston State pulled away in the second half to defeat Huston-Tillotson 89-53 Wednesday night.
Marquel McKinney added 12 points for the Bearkats (6-5), who shot a season-high 51 percent from the field and outrebounded Huston-Tillotson 45-28. Terrance Motley and Darius Gatson had 11 points apiece.
Demetrius Smith scored 15 points for Huston-Tillotson (2-11), an NAIA school.
The Rams stayed close in the early going, when there were five lead changes, before Sam Houston built a 38-30 halftime lead. The Bearkats turned it into a rout in the second half, outscoring Huston-Tillotson 51-23.
