Gilberto Clavell had 22 points and Sam Houston State scored the final eight points of the game to defeat Central Arkansas 70-62 on Saturday.
Clavell hit a pair of free throws with 1:40 left to put the Bearkats (14-11, 7-5 Southland) ahead 64-62, and Sam Houston State added six more free throws to secure the victory.
Central Arkansas (5-20, 1-11) trailed 59-48 with 6:37 left in the game but used a 14-3 run to tie the game at 62 on Mike Pouncy's layup with 2:00 remaining. The Bears, who lost their sixth straight, missed two free throws, two 3-pointers and had a turnover on their final four possessions.
Tadre Sheppard had 16 points, Pouncy 13 and Dewan Clayborn 10 for Central Arkansas.
Lance Pevehouse added 13 for Sam Houston State, and Josten Crow had 11.
